Grateful
Late last year, my non-profit documentary filmmaking organization, Stories of War, was the recipient of a grant.
I was absolutely blown away, ecstatic, and suddenly had the fuel to pull my dreams out of the air and take the first steps toward weaving them into reality.
It was a very exciting time and boy oh boy did I put the funding to good use.
It allowed me the tech, travel, and research resources required to begin the filmmaking process for a series of documentary shorts that deep-dive into stories of war.
The work I do is truly everything to me. It is my orbit, and it is what pumps each beat my heart beats full of life and purpose. The words ‘I am blessed’ sound trite … but I truly am, to do what I do.
And so, I’ve been creating like wild, like a woman in full throttle blast, like a creator who understands the potential of authentic insight and voice - and also understands that to funnel that voice through the written word and imagery and human story is a sacred gift.
The films I have begun making are just the beginning … and will fold in my creative streak as an artist and wordsmith.
I know who I am and what I came here to do and my god it feels good to be doing it.
And I am grateful for humans like the women over at WomensNet @ambergrants who honored my organization with this grant.
It is they who help make the vibrant worlds that live in artist’s minds possible through providing the resources required to bring vision into matter.
I’m so very thankful and look fully forward to the day I am able to pay it forward. For now, I’ll keep doing my work so that I can get there.
