Life-changing, joyous, uplifting ... these are the words used to describe Erin Faith Allen’s art retreats. We are committed to calling all creatives to meet up on incredibly inspiring land, with a group of like-minded artsy folk for good old fashioned artmaking, inspiration, and friendship.

On 25 April, 2018, we will bring you together with Misty Mawn, A'Driane Nieves, Elizabeth Bunsen, Crystal Neubauer, Willemien DeVilliers, Roxanne Coble, Henry Lohmeyer, Jenny Doh, and Erin Faith Allen for a one-of-a-kind art retreat at the hallowed Ghost Ranch.

Beneath these majestic cliffs and big desert sky we will paint, contemplate, and laugh in the footsteps of the legendary Georgia O’Keeffe, who lived and created here in Abiquiu, New Mexico for decades. This landscape is potent, and so are the instructors in our collaborative workshop offerings ... they just happen to be world renowned artists.  Each participant will choose two workshops to take (out of a choice of five listed below).

Elizabeth Bunsen and Crystal Neubauer ::: Colors of the Canyon

Join Elizabeth and Crystal in this special multi-sensory workshop. In rapt fascination we soak in the majestic colors and scenery on display in this magical location as inspiration to create radiant hues of canyon, desert, and sky. Paper and Fabric will be dyed in ranges of white, cream, tea tan, euca salmon, soft baby cheek peach, transitioning to hot pink cochineal, passion tea purples, and blue from brilliant sky to midnight indigo. With our paper and fabric palette in hand, we learn how to tap in to the intuitive voice through the art of collage, beyond a work of art, to the expression of self that the soul longs to tell.

Misty Mawn and A'Driane Nieves ::: Making Space

A’Driane and Misty will gently encourage you to bring light to your inner darkness. Who have you been? Who are you now? Who will you become?  Together, with your own commitment to expression, A'Driane and Misty will help you draw on your personal experiences to create expressive works of art;  and you will use a variety of materials including paint, paper, collage, canvas, and clay.

Willemien DeVilliers and Roxanne Coble ::: Myth and Memory + Storytellers

Each of us carries within us a constructed sense of self; the story of who we are, and how we are, in the world, twining us to our ancestors, and their collective familial myths and fables. Each day we add another page that adds to what has gone before, leading to this present moment. In this workshop we will to guide you, though various layered illustrative techniques, as well as writing exercises and stitching, to uncover the next page of your story.

Henry Lohmeyer and Erin Faith Allen ::: Je Suis {I Am} ... (Thursday and Friday)

With Erin, we will explore the visual language of self-definition, to include but not limited to 'literal' translations of self.  With our own being as our muse, we will plunge into the deeper layers of self-gazing, to move beyond our surface self through loose and abstract drawing, collage, and other forms of visual communication.  We will ask ourself questions, leave with a few answers, and ... hopefully more questions ... because self-exploration is proof of aliveness.

With Henry, we will note ourselves through three manners of photography. One, capturing ourselves directly—self-portraits—seeing ourselves in a vulnerable state of being seen and felt. Two, using landscape as a way to reveal our mood and how we can reflect upon that. And third, using surrogates, objects or others, to hold visual space for us, allowing us to see ourselves from a distance. In all three cases, we’ll be sharing techniques that might help you best express what you are feeling, processing and needing to express.

Jenny Doh and Erin Faith Allen ::: Je Suis {I Am} ... (Saturday and Sunday)

In this workshop, we will explore the facets that comprise the self. With Jenny, we will practice methods related to representational abstract painting where we first take a photo of the self and then reference that photo to capture not just the likeness but the essence of the self ... as we embrace and take responsibility of who ... i am ... je suis ...
