BUT. For the past few months, I’ve been ‘seeing’ this in my head. I’ve accumulated thousands of video clips from my eight research trips to Europe’s WW2 humans and sights, which eventually culminated in my book, ‘The In Between’.
I woke up today needing to feel myself, deeply. I fell a little off-track, and turned a little inside out this week, and nothing makes me feel who I truly am underneath it all like weaving together history, travel, and creativity.
So here’s a little practice run at weaving footage while returning to myself.
The locations in this 1 minute quickie include Ravensbrück, Sachsenhausen, Mauthausen, Gunskirchen, Salaspils concentration camps. Treblinka Death Camp. A Latvian battlefield. Warsaw and Berlin. And more.
Most of the footage was shot this last winter, which was when my book actually takes place. I was broken. A broken person walking through broken history. But I tell you all those details in the pages of the book itself.
The song accompanying the clips is extra special to me. It was composed by my bestie Tim Guion in his living room in old Prague. I was sitting right there, heart bursting open over the magic of that glorious city, and fresh off the boat from the US of A. The song is called ‘Andéle’, or Angels.
